GLOBAL GROOVE – ART, DANCE, PERFORMANCE AND PROTEST

EXHIBITION

13. August bis 14. November 2021
Museum Folkwang Essen
The interdisciplinary exhibition showcases more than 120 years of art and dance history. Starting with contemporary collaborations and moving on to Japanese butoh dancer’s first happenings and the pioneers of modern dance, Global Groove traces the cultural history of contact from west to east ultimately arriving at the early performances of Asian dancers in Europe around 1900. Photographs, paintings, sculptures, films as well as a live performance demonstrate how the language of dance contributes to the social, political, and cultural transformation of societies.
